Congratulations to Steve Carr who was crowned the winner of the NAR Handicap Grand Prix after finishing in fifth place in today's race. Junior captain, Charlotte Captain, rounded the season off with a gold medal for first place that saw her rise to second overall in the competition.  The final place on the podium went to Vicki Brunink who fought off competition from Jeremy and Jan to clinch third place overall.  Huge thanks to everyone that ran, marshaled and cheered on over the past 12 races.  I wish Jezza all the best organising the next season's races.

A rare week of sunshine has meant more of us are coming out for a run which is a great thing, but don't forget that when it gets hotter you will need to pack some more water, cover yourself from the sun and break out the sun lotion.  With that in mind, let's make the most of our mini-summer and get out for some running this week!

|||

Well done to everyone that ran our local HRRL league race, the Netley 10k this morning! There is only one race left this season, next month's Lordshill 10k (which sold out last week).  We shall be entering the HRRL and its cross-country cousin, the CC6, next season; so stay tuned for the new race calendar by the summer.

Kit manager Martin has extended the deadline for the new blue race shirts/vests, and you can also order new hoodies, caps, hats, shorts and cotton tees in the next week too.

Next month sees our first entry into the Mile of Miles race at Southampton Athletics Track.  Details are on the Racers Group on Facebook; we need a few more names to make up two teams.  All the races are on our calendar. If you would like to find out more about racing for NAR please email our Fixtures Secretary for details.  Running a race is not as scary as it seems and no matter where you finish you will be cheered on by every other NAR there!  You can see how we are doing here.

|||

Congratulations to the NARs that took part in the Alton 10 this morning; nothing like a nice flat run on a Sunday morning!  For those looking to flex their competitive muscles there is the welcome return of the Magic Mile on Tuesday evening.

A quick thank you to all those that turned up to show your support for our junior parkrun trial event on Sunday morning.  It was a decent little turnout for a dress rehearsal and it was great to see runners lending a hand halfway through their LSR just because they wanted to help!  Next week is the first ever junior parkrun in Netley Abbey, if you have young runners aged 4-14 please bring them down.

|||

The big marathon weekend is drawing to an end. Well done to each and everyone of you that ran and/or supported at Southampton and London (and anywhere else in the land!)  May your Monday be as free of stiffness as an over 70s night at Spearmint Rhino!  Please remember that if you would like your PBs to appear on the website you must email them to me.

This Wednesday we have our NAR Handicap GP Race 10 at RVCP.  All Improvers are invited to either 'race' or 'run' the course (3 laps of the parkrun summer course); if you would like to race please let me know and I can come up with a 5k handicap time for you (deadline for 'admission' is Tuesday).  Please meet at the Chapel at Royal Victoria Country Park at 6.45pm for a 7pm start.

|||

With the sun shining in the sky and marathons just on the horizon it is a good time to be a runner!  Due to the first RR10 Race at RVCP (and injury) we will be four Run Leaders short for the Wednesday Improvers Group so please all behave for Ria!  With this in mind we are looking for people to put themselves forward for Run Leader duties; please email Vicki (secretary@netleyabbeyrunners.com) if you would like some details.  The following Wednesday we have our NAR Handicap GP Race 10 at RVCP.  All Improvers are invited to either 'race' or 'run' the course (3 laps of the parkrun summer course); if you would like to race please let me know and I can come up with a handicap time for you (deadline for 'admission' is Tuesday 25 April).

We have the upcoming NAR Handicap GP Race 10 to look forward to this month, along with the Invitational OS Runners Time Trial and Southampton/London Marathons!   Next month there are two HRRL (Road Race) events on and we are woefully short of numbers for the Alton 10 on Sunday 7 May.  All the races are on our calendar. If you would like to find out more about racing for NAR please email our Fixtures Secretary for details.  Running a race is not as scary as it seems and no matter where you finish you will be cheered on by every other NAR there!

|||

Well done to Dylan (7), Alexandra and Steve C who picked up gold, silver and bronze at this morning's NAR Handicap GP Race 9.  Steve is now top of the leaderboard with only three races left!

Please note that the Wednesday improvers group will start at 7pm from now on.  The Friday Family Sessions are back on the field (weather permitting) so expect the usual assault course, shuttles, relays, tug of war and 1k race until the end of summer!

|||

That's Eastleigh done and dusted.  A handful of PBs, a top 4 finish in her category for Charlotte and a wobble at the end for Jezza.  Superb effort all round (and a reminder that it is 10k, not 9.6k!)  And let's not forget the massive effort of everyone involved at our local parkrun's 5th birthday; we raised £366.06 towards the AED (defibrillator) with our baking and selling expertise.  A good weekend to be a NAR!

|||

To help raise donations for our local parkrun to have an AED (defibrillator) in Royal Victoria Country Park we shall be operating the cake stall this Saturday at parkrun.  Bring your cakes and try to sell as many as possible!

|||

A truly inspirational turnout by our NAR Racers at the final CC6 Cross Country Race of the season as 11 brave souls turned their backs on the comfort of a warm bed or the same boring roads to represent our club over 8km of mud, hills, mud, boggy fields, mud and quicksand.  To top the weekend of racing we also had Chris proving his hill-climbing credentials at the Larmer 20 Mile!

We are well into the membership process for the 2017-18 racing year.  All new membership forms will be processed in the last week of each month; so if you wish to run as an affiliated athlete in a race that is in April and you hand your form in on the last day of March you will not be processed in time.  Please download the membership form from www.netleyabbeyrunners.com/members.html complete it and email it to Gemma Boyle membership@netleyabbeyrunners.com along with emailing Jeremy Robbins treasurer@netleyabbeyrunners.com to ask for bank details (and obviously pay!). That way you will be processed for the entire running year.

Everyone will need to fill out a new membership form if you wish to sign up for another year.  If you do not wish to renew your membership please email Gemma and our Club Secretary Vicki Brunink secretary@netleyabbeyrunners.com so that we can update our files and contact UK Athletics if you are currently affiliated to us.

Miserable weather but smiling faces (and tears) as Vicki and Charlotte were named the NAR 2016 Runners of the Year (Senior and Junior). Both runners deserved their trophies for the hard work they have not only put into their running, but also how inspirational they are to all club members.  The trophies were handed out after Race 7 of the NAR Handicap Grand Prix, which Vicki won, with Sarah H and Martin close behind.  We also had NARs running at the Romsey 5 and Chilly Hilly, well done people!

Can any ladies that are interested in the new Ladies Night please email Alex so she can work out when to start the first session.

|||

A brilliant week of running ended with a tough CC6 cross-country race in the New Forest on a stunning winter's morning.  A superb team effort from the NARs saw us battling at the front with the big guns!

Alex and I had a meeting with the local junior parkrun ambassador (who we saw again covered in mud at the cross-country) and we are very close to bringing junior parkrun to Netley; we just need to be able to present them with a list of core volunteers willing to help out.  This would include people willing to turn up for the first couple of months and sharing duties such as setting up, timing, run directors, tail-runner, etc.  Please contact me if you wish to know more about it.

|||

Not the dryest of weeks, but a lot of miles were racked up as 30 NARs ran in the HRRL Stubbington 10k Race on Sunday (which has grown from 1 in 2015, and 11 in 2016!)  We also had a podium place as Lyla (11) was the second girl to cross the line in the junior race and picked up a trophy in the 11-14 category!  Can everyone that ran please email me their times (PBs or not) so I can update the website?

We are putting the Friday Family Sessions back on from this Friday, so if you fancy running a fun 2k with your little ones bring them along! Just to show how important the Family Sessions are to the club, one of our youngest runners (Elliot) became our 100th Netley Abbey parkrunner on Saturday!

League Races

We are halfway through January and we still have some tantalising races in the next few weeks (New Forest CC6, NAR Handicap GP, Ryde 10 Mile). If you would like to find out more about racing for NAR please email our Fixtures Secretary Tony 'T-Bone' Browne for details.  Running a race is not as scary as it seems and no matter where you finish you will be cheered on by every other NAR there!  You can see how we are doing here.

|||

Got to love those foghorns throughout the night! Anyway, another busy week that ended with another foray into our CC6 cross-country races and the test run of our local junior parkrun where we had 86 children running around the cricket field, cheered on by a lot of NARs, Hedgies and first-time parents.  Huge thanks to those that came down and helped; I think we impressed the junior parkrun ambassador who was attending enough to put it in motion.

|||

Happy New Year to everyone!  Let's hope 2017 proves to be a great year for all of us.  I contemplated writing a recap of 2016 but to be honest we already know how brilliant we are and how much work has gone into the club from all our members.  It is worth mentioning that we raised £69.72 on Christmas Day for the Friends of Royal Victoria Country Park who are raising money to restore the Chapel in the park, well done all. We have also been given the reins of the junior parkrun which came as a complete shock because we, as a club, did not put ourselves forward.  However, the general feeling is that it is a good thing and we want it to work so we will reach out to local clubs and groups to help us.  Having said that, if anyone would like to volunteer and/or join the 'core group' please get in touch.

League Races

January is here and there are some tantalising races (Winchester CC6, Stubbington 10k, New Forest CC6, NAR Handicap GP).  If you would like to find out more about racing for NAR please email our Fixtures Secretary Tony 'T-Bone' Browne for details.  Running a race is not as scary as it seems and no matter where you finish you will be cheered on by every other NAR there!  You can see how we are doing here.

Club Kit

I still have club tee shirts and vests from the last order to hand out, so please let me know when you want them (if you have ordered) or if you want to buy any.  You can see our stock list here.  Our new Club Kit Manager Martin Flavin shall be taking over soon!

RVCP parkrun

Run times and PBs for NARs at parkrun can be found here.  Don't forget to add Netley Abbey Runners as your club if you regularly run on a Saturday or Sunday morning!

|||

What a busy week it has been!  We have a new look committee for 2017 and some interesting ideas coming up from January.  This weekend saw a fair few PBs at the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon as well as a festive turnout at the Hardley Runners Christmas 10k Handicap.  Can people please email their times from today's races so I can add them to the calendar.  We now all have a couple of weeks rest until January serves up some tantalising races (Winchester CC6, Stubbington 10k, New Forest CC6, NAR Handicap GP).

With it being Christmas next week we have the added bonus of parkruns on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve we are planning a quick dip in the water after parkrun, for those foolhardy enough!  On Christmas Day we will have a team of elves pouring shots of an Irish Whiskey Cream drink (Schmaileys) each lap for a small donation that will go to the Friends of Royal Victoria Country Park who are raising money to restore the Chapel in the park.

|||

After last night's EGM we would like to welcome our new committee members who are joining the (slightly reshuffled) current team.

New Members:

Melanie Captain - Welfare Officer

Gemma Boyle - Membership Secretary

Vicki Brunink - Club Secretary

Martin Flavin - Club Kit Manager

Jeremy Robbins - Club Treasurer

New Position:

Nick Coe - Community, Communications & Fundraising Officer

Remaining Positions:

A fantastic performance by Team NAR at the Stoney Cross CC6 cross-country race this morning saw all four of the Ladies' Team finish in the top 50 and all six of the Men's Team finish in the top 100!  We caused a commotion in the Men's race as Archie crossed the line in second place!  A top effort by every single runner in what was a very, very hard race.  Good luck to all NARs running the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon next week.

We have an EGM on Thursday 15 December starting at 8pm at Netley Social Club, Station Road (next to the big Co-op) to vote in new committee members.

We have club tee shirts and vests from the last order to hand out, so please let me know when you want them (if you have ordered) or if you want to buy any.

|||

There will be an EGM on Thursday 15 December at 8pm at Netley Social Club to vote in new committee members.  Please email Alex if you cannot attend.

Saturday's parkrun was a family affair as we all took on volunteer roles to cheer and support Ian W on his last Netley Abbey parkrun as a 'local'; after this week he becomes a Gosport resident!  It has been an absolute pleasure to run with Ian over the last two years and I hope he is allowed the odd weekend pass to come back and run with us again.  I was greatly impressed with everyone that took on the responsibilities thrust upon them as we all pitched in, thank you all!

Our HRRL league race on Sunday was at the chilly but sunny Victory 5 and what a performance by Team NAR! There were PBs all over the shop (please send them through so I can update the website) and I am looking forward to putting the official league tables up in a couple of days.  Next Sunday is our CC6 Race at Lyndhurst so let's get those muddy trail shoes even muddier!

|||

Anyone remember summer?!  Big respect to the NARs that took part in the Gosport Half Marathon (HRRL) as they were battered and blown (sounds like a cheap date) around Gosport!  There is no let-up in the league racing calendar as we have the Hayling 10 next Sunday and the Victory 5 the Sunday after that; please let us know if you are racing so that we can add your names to our calendar.

A special mention must be made for Archie as he finished parkrun in first place, almost 2 minutes ahead of the competition!  That was the first time a NAR has been the first to cross the line.  Maybe it's time for a 1-2-3 next?

A future date for your diaries is Friday 23 December which sees our usual Holiday Treasure Hunt take place on the same day as the 7th NAR Handicap GP.  The Treasure Hunt will be a fund-raising venture towards a defibrillator in RVCP.  It will cost £5 per team to enter (max. 5 per team) with prizes and sweeties on offer.

|||

A harsh introduction to the great British winter this weekend saw rain all day for parkrun and then glorious sunshine for the NAR Handicap GP Invitational Race 6 which witnessed almost 40 runners compete from NAR, Solent Running Sisters, Hedge End RC and Hardley Runners.  It was a mix of youth and experience as Harvey (10) strolled to victory, Ian W (older than 10) paced himself perfectly to pick up silver, and mop-top Dylan (7) hunted down Marta on the final stretch to steal bronze!

Next Sunday is the Gosport Half Marathon (HRRL) with a fair few NARs taking part.  Please remember to email the races you are competing in so that I can update the calendar on the website.

We still have a couple of hoodies to hand out from the last order, please get back to me so I can hand them over to you.  As for the race shirts/vests, Chris is expecting delivery any day now.

|||

On a bright, chilly Sunday morning we competed in round three of the CC6 Cross Country League and welcomed Charlotte to the world of competitive running.  She aced it, as did everyone involved!  Next Sunday morning is the NAR Handicap GP Invitational Race 6 which starts at 9.30am in the country park.  I only have a couple of runners on the list so please email Nick if you would like to compete against runners from Pompey Joggers, Solent Running Sisters, Hedge End RC and Hardley Runners (or if you would like to help marshal).

We have picked up the latest order of hoodies, caps, cotton shirts, etc and are handing them out this week.  As for the race shirts/vests, still no word but Chris has taken over the order and will let us all know when they are ready.

You will need to bring a head torch and hi-viz/reflective clothing to evening runs.  If the Run Leader thinks that you are not safe to run you may be turned away from the session, so please make sure you can be seen! Please be aware that wearing all black, no matter how stylish it looks, is not suitable for running at night.

New (and old) runners are reminded to take a look at the Safe Running Guide.

|||

Spooky times were to be had on Friday when 20 ghoulish NARs ran through the haunted woods while ghosts, zombies and a rabid monkey jumped out on them.  Good times!

This coming Sunday is our next CC6 Cross Country Race so please put your name forward to Tony 'T-Bone' Browne if you would like to run through the woods in the New Forest (Dibden Purlieu).  We need at least four men and three ladies to complete our teams for the race (minimum age is 15).

Massive apologies for the continued delay in the race tee shirts/vests.  On the plus side, I am expecting to pick up the hoodies and non-race shirts from our other suppliers mid-week.

|||

It was the Great South Run on Sunday with a very good turnout in the race and on the sidelines, let's try and keep that spirit going throughout our league races!  We also saw Archie claim second place in Saturday's parkrun in a blistering sub-18 minute time.

As an added bonus this week we are planning a spooky Friday Family Session so please feel free to dress up for a dark run through the woods at the end of the week.

|||

Another week of running was capped off with the fifth Handicap GP Race of the season as Ria raced for gold, Nicola smashed it for silver and Gemma grabbed bronze on the line (in a brilliant racing manoeuvre).  It was a great display from the NAR Ladies to own the podium!

Next Sunday sees the Great South Run in Portsmouth, plenty of our runners taking part to cheer along.   The rest of the week is catered for as usual (see the times and days below) thanks to our wonderful Run Leaders Alex, Chris, Ria, Stu and Nick, make sure to show your appreciation by turning up to the sessions.

Look out for an email/Facebook message about a NAR volunteer takeover of parkrun.  We think it's time to pay back the good things that parkrun has done for is by letting the usual volunteers have a week off!

Apologies for the delay in the race shirts/vests.  These were meant to arrive on Friday 7 October but our supplier is now saying there is a two week delay.  I can assure that I am doing my best to get them to you before the GSR!

|||

Big distances were covered this week in the Solent Half (HRRL Race 2) and IOW Marathon.  Next Sunday sees the NAR Handicap GP Race 5 in RVCP at 11am.  No hard sell, don't want to seem pushy at all; come along if you want to or stay in bed and dream about events that miraculously organise themselves.

The final club kit order of the year deadline is Friday 14 October. Think hats, hoodies, cotton tees, embroidered shorts and all that jazz.

Run times and PBs for the NARs at parkrun can be found here.  Don't forget to add Netley Abbey Runners as your club if you regularly run on a Saturday morning!

|||

This past week saw our first NAR Handicap GP Invitational Race won by Vicki in record-breaking time as well as thunder and lightning at parkrun and a good turnout for marshalling duties at the Whiteley CC6.

We have our second HRRL League Race this coming Sunday as we cross the water to compete in the Solent Half.  Midweek evening sessions offer Trail Running on Tuesday, Hill Sessions in Hamble on Thursday and a return to the 'Winter 2k Format' for the Friday Family Session.  Social runs as usual on Monday and Thursday mornings.  No LSR on Sunday due to the league race.

The final club kit (winter gear time) of the year is currently being ordered so please get your orders in!  Think hats, hoodies, cotton tees, embroidered shorts and all that jazz.

|||

Some fine running went on this weekend as we had NARs all over the place - running the Ageas Perform 5 Mile, Winchester Half and Loch Ness Marathon (not in one go!).  Well done to all runners and supporters that racked up the miles, and the sore hands from clapping.

No league races this coming weekend but we are marshalling at the second cross-country CC6 Race on Sunday.  We also have the next NAR (Handicap) GP on Tuesday 27 September at 6.30pm (the first runner will set off at 6.30pm so please come early).  Please contact us for details if you haven't already put yourself down as running or helping.

|||

A wonderful turnout at the New Forest Marathon saw nearly 30 NARs cross the line in all races (5k, 10k, Half Marathon & Full Marathon) including a 3rd place (ladies) for Alexandra in the 5k. There was amazing support on the sidelines too; a great effort all round!

We have a Cross Country league race in Eastleigh on Sunday 18 September at 9.30am.  Please contact Nick or Fixtures Secretary Tony ‘T-Bone’ Browne for details.

We are taking club kit orders for race shirts/vests and training shirts up until 14 September (for delivery at the end of the month).  Please email Nick or check the Gallery page for details.

Run times and PBs for the NARs at parkrun can be found here.  Don't forget to add Netley Abbey Runners as your club if you regularly run on a Saturday morning!

|||

Today (Sunday 4 September) was our first ever league road race as a team at the Overton 5, massive thanks to acting captains Ian B (men's team), Bex B (ladies team) and Lyla (10) (junior team) as they led Shaun, Jezza, Piercey, Harvey (9) and Lilly-May (10).  There was a brilliant first place for Dylan (7) in the juniors race (up to 7yrs).  However, you may notice that we only had one lady running in the main race, this needs to improve otherwise we will fail big time in our first season!  The dates for all league races have been up on the website calendar for some time, so please check and see what races you would like to run in (we need a minimum of four men and three women to compete in all competition races).

We have a Cross Country league race in Eastleigh on Sunday 18 September and our invitational NAR (Handicap) GP Race 4 on Thursday 27 September (there are currently runners from Eastleigh RC, Hedge End RC, Portsmouth Joggers, Solent Running Sisters and Stubbington Green Runners taking part, with more clubs to confirm!)  Please contact Nick or Fixtures Secretary Tony Browne - fixtures@netleyabbeyrunners.com for details.

A sunny week saw quite a few of us pounding the streets and trails around Netley, ending with a very hot parkrun around the 'new' course. This week we have a good old Fartlek session on Tuesday evening to look forward to as well as the Summer picnic and NAR (Handicap) Grand Prix Race 2 on Sunday 31 July.  The general consensus is that Facebook is the preferred option to organise our events so please reply or like or poke or whatever people do on there!

As we are now in the school summer holidays you will be pleased to know that the junior runners are more than welcome to come along to the runs on Monday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings (along with the Friday Family sessions of course!)  The only stipulation is that they can comfortably run 5km and that they run with a parent/guardian.  As with all runs there will always be a Run Leader at the back of the group.

We are currently handing out all the tee shirts/vests that were ordered in May and this month.  Please email Nick to let him know when and where you would like me to bring them (if you don't remind him he won't bring them!)  We are now taking orders for the 'Rubber Soul' tee shirts and hoodies, as well as the new NAR baseball caps.

There were a thumping three PBs at parkrun on Saturday as Mark D, Ray and Donna effortlessly showboated across the line in new best times.  The 21 Netley Abbey Runners at parkrun were (1st NAR) Toby M | Dan C | Miguel | Stu | Mathew | Alex | Jude | Steve C | Mark D (PB) 27:23 | Sarah H | Clare P | Ria | Piercey | Martin | Ray (PB) 32:59 | Donna (PB) 33:19 | Lucy B | Jan | Mel | Sam W | Dobby.  Our volunteers and cheerers on the day were Marrow | Ian B | Stevie T | Nick | Juliette.

|||

Is the sun finally threatening to come out to play?  A warm week ended with a number of NARs running in the Emoji Day Run on Sunday as well as Shavey running the Newham 10k.  Please remember that if you are racing, let me know so I can add it to the calendar (it makes life a lot easier when writing the email).  On the subject of the weekly email (and ones sent out in the week), we appreciate that not everyone gets a chance to read and reply to them so let us know if it would be better to put messages on Facebook instead.

In the meantime, could people please let me know their thoughts on the Litter Run and also if you will be turning up for the Summer picnic and/or NAR (Handicap) Grand Prix Race Race 2 on Sunday 31 July (for those that do not know what I am on about there are details below).  We should be receiving the first batch of shirts/vests from our new supplier at the end of the week.  We will keep you posted.  Don't forget that there is a really easy way of raising money for the club from simply shopping online - easyfundraising.org.uk

There were a thrilling three PBs at parkrun on Saturday as Jeremy, Piercey and Ray wiped the sweat off their foreheads to cross the line in new bests.  The 23 Netley Abbey Runners at parkrun were (1st NAR) Jeremy (PB) 21:22 | Piercey (PB) 22:24 | Toby | Kieran | Jude | Ian B | Dave | Martin | T-Bone | Steve C | Nick | Mark C | Juliette | Mark D | Nicola | Vicki | Hazel | Lyla | Shaun | Clare P | Ray (PB) 33:37 | Jan | Sam.  Our volunteers and cheerers on the day were Chris | Shona | Joseph | Noah | Dobby | Stanley | Gemma | Bea | Bo | Ria | Peyton | Nick.

The Litter Run?!  What is that all about?

You'll love this, maybe.  The Litter Run is a fundraising effort that combines the Netley Abbey Runners ethos of fitness, community and the environment.  On a Sunday (date TBC) in the school summer holidays Philippa S-C and Nick will be organising a 'race' where speed, distance and weight (of litter collected) will be calculated to find the winner.

How does it work?

You will work in teams, competing against others, to rack up the miles and bring back as much litter as you can pick up.  Your distance will be calculated by GPS and your litter will be weighed (bricks and stones do not count!)  There will be a small donation to enter that will be put back into the club (as well as buying the prizes).  Teams shall consist of a mix of adults and children.

What do I have to do?

You will be given a litter-picker and refuse bags (bring your own gloves).  Everyone starts off from the same place at the same time.  There will be a time limit so it might be worth scampering off quickly to boost the distance for a chance to win.  Collect as much litter as you can (avoiding anything too nasty or dangerous) and get it weighed on your return.

Okay, what happens now?

The first part of the competition begins now.  All junior runners are invited to draw a poster that will advertise the Litter Run.  It needs to be bright, bold and explain the Litter Run (a race to see what team picks up the most litter against the clock over the longest distance!)  The deadline for the Poster Competition is Saturday 23 July.  The winning poster will be used to advertise the Litter Run locally (and the budding artist wins a prize!)

The second NAR (Handicap) Grand Prix Race is on Sunday 31 July.  It will be at RVCP as usual but as it falls on a Sunday we can be flexible on the start time.  It might be a good idea to combine it with a summer picnic (for those that remember last year's summer picnic it might be advisable to bring a brolly!)  I would bring my gazebo but certain people broke it at the Netley 10k so if anyone has one please bring it.

If that sounds good to everyone let me know.  If I could have an idea on numbers for the picnic and the race that would be brilliant.

Another seven days have flown past as we witnessed Andy Murray winning Wimbledon; Lewis Hamilton taking 1st in the British Grand Prix; France (or Portugal as it is only half time) spectacularly winning the Euros by three/two/one goals/penalties... and Stuart, Tony and Jeremy running in the Wyvern 10k!  This Tuesday's evening session is the dreaded/loved Magic Mile and Thursday's evening session will be a good old hill session!

We are putting the new club kit order on Monday and am hoping for a delivery around 24 July.  If you want to order a new running shirt or vest please get in touch ASAP!

There was just the one wonderful PB at parkrun on Saturday as Ray put his head down and sprinted across the line in 33:43.  The 23 Netley Abbey Runners at parkrun were (1st NAR) Toby | Ian B | Dan C | Mathew | Dave | Steve T | Jeremy | Steve C | Noelle | Charlotte | Dylan | Stuart | Emily | Marrow | Ria | Lyla | Harvey | Alex | Ray (PB) 33:43 | Jan | Ian W | Sam W | Dobby.  Our volunteers and cheerers on the day were Shona | Dan Skid | Lilly | Lyla | Joseph | Noah.

If you are registered with parkrun you can always click on the 'manage my profile' link in their weekly email and 'update' your profile to choose Netley Abbey Runners as your running club - that way more people will notice us!  We are currently the 6th biggest club at our local parkrun, if a few more of you add your names we will jump up to 5th!  Thank you to Jack H, Holly H and Bo who are now listed alongside the other Netley Abbey Runners on the parkrun website.

A big week that saw Emily, Tyler and Shona pick up gold, silver and bronze in the inaugural NAR (Handicap) Grand Prix on Tuesday evening, Chris running through mudslides at the PJC Summer XC on Wednesday evening,  eight PBs at parkrun on Saturday and Alex, Stuart and Nick taking on the near impossible 21 Mile Meon Valley Summer Plod on Sunday.

We have been working hard to secure a new supplier for our tee shirts and vests after being let down by the previous company (hence the lack of club kit in the last few weeks).  The good news is that I think I have found a reliable company that can take over the orders and supply the club.  Please bear with me as I hope to have the new stock in three weeks' time.  It is also a good time to put in any new orders for the first batch, so please get in touch!

I have been asked by Chris to mention that the Southampton Half Marathon are looking for group volunteers for 2017.  There is a bonus of £250 paid out to big groups, so might be worth putting forward a team of mile-markers.  Speaking of Chris, the Thursday hill session shall take place in Royal Victoria Country Park on Thursday, please check the diary for details.

Just a quick reminder that you can find out what is happening this week and following weeks by looking at the calendar on the News page of the website.  If you want to add your name to the list of NARs running at the advertised events please let me know.  As always, if you have any new PBs or want the club website updated let us know.

There were an extraordinary eight PBs at parkrun on Saturday as Dave, Shaun, Ian B, Piercey, Miguel, Noelle, Boothy and Mark grit their teeth and powered across the line for new bests.  The 20 Netley Abbey Runners at parkrun were (1st NAR) Dave (PB) 19:48 | Shaun (PB) 21:31 | Ian B (PB) 22:25 | Piercey (PB) 22:27 | Miguel (PB) 22:39 | Toby | Steve T | Mathew | Noelle (PB) 25:35 | Chris | Steve C | Boothy (PB) 26:06 | George | Jeremy | Mark (PB) 27:42 | Gemma | Dobby | Jan | Mel | Alex.  Our volunteers and cheerers on the day were Shona | Nick | Stuart | Lilly | Lyla | Joseph | Noah | Kyle.

Hopefully the annual June monsoon will end and we can get back to running soon.  Having said that there were 17 NARs running up and down the runway at Southampton Airport in the early hours this morning, which followed a record turnout at parkrun on Saturday!  Don't forget that it is the first race of the NAR (Handicap) Grand Prix series (medals and trophies sponsored by Genio Accountants) on Tuesday evening - please let us know if you are racing or want to help with the marshalling.

A big week for the NARs as we picked up two gold medals at the River Hamble Games with Sam B (12) winning the 10k (junior) race and Toby winning the volleyball!  There were some excellent performances all round from a large team of runners, marshals and supporters; hats off to everyone involved.  Speaking of races, I have added a shed load to the calendar on the website, including the 12 Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL) fixtures that we intend to enter competitively and not forgetting the dates of the first few NAR (Handicap) Grand Prix races (medals and trophies sponsored by Genio Accountants) which begins on Tuesday 28 June - make a note in your diaries!

Tuesday evening's session (rain or shine) is the June Magic Mile, so get your groove on and burn those lungs along Weston Shore to get your time on the website.  On Thursday evening, Chris will be timing your Itchen Bridge laps for the monthly 'Bridge Over the River, Why?!' so there is no escape!  To top off the week Alex is working alongside ParkLives to provide a free fitness bootcamp each Sunday morning at 10.15am on the green near the cafe on Weston Shore.

There were a tremendous two PBs at parkrun  on Saturday as Dan Skid and Vicki trampled over the competition to rack up new fastest times.  The 21 Netley Abbey Runners at parkrun were (1st NAR) Dan Skid (PB) | Jeremy | Toby | Ian B | Steve C | Dylan | Stuart | Steve T | Gemma | Vicki (PB) | Mark | Lyla | Emily | Hazel | Harvey | Alex | Ian W | Lucy B | Sam W | Ray | T-Bone.  Our volunteers and cheerers on the day were loud and proud.

A mixed bag of weather meant that the start of the week was all about keeping cool under the burning sun and the end of the week was about dodging the rain.  Because of the extremes we are facing I would like to keep reminding people to bring water to the runs and to take care not to get sunstroke (although looking out the window you would be better off avoiding being drowned).  No races this weekend apart from Endure 24 where Alex knocked out seven laps of five miles over a 24 hour period.  We definitely need to enter at least one team for next year ourselves!  We could also do with some ladies entering the IOW Marathon, don't be shy! A big thank you to Dobby and T-Bone (Claire and Tony) who hosted the NAR BBQ yesterday, and to every single one of you that turned up to make it such a great afternoon, what with England winning 1-0 later on it was the perfect day (I changed channels around the 90 minute mark to catch an interesting documentary on how quickly paint dries).

There were a sensational seven PBs at parkrun on Saturday as Hamish (13), Samuel B (12), Steve C, Boothy, Marrow, Vicki and Ray threw down the gauntlet to all other runners by notching up new quickest times.  The 27 Netley Abbey Runners at parkrun were (1st NAR) Stu | Marshall | Hamish (PB)| Jeremy | Dan Skid | Mathew | Shaun | Ryan | Samuel B (PB) | Nick | Steve C (PB) | Lyla | Chris | Boothy (PB) | T-Bone | Marrow (PB) | Vicki (PB) | Mark | Ria | Hazel | Sarah C | Gemma | Noelle | Jan | Clare P | Ray (PB) | Lee.  Our volunteers and cheerers on the day were Shona| Dobby | Gethin | Grace | Matt M | Sarah H | Holly | Jack | Lilly | Joseph | Noah.

We have added a new calendar to the website so that you know what is coming up in the weeks ahead.  If you are running any races that are not on the calendar please let us know and we will add them (and list you as running).
