Health & Wellbeing

Supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of every runner — because feeling good matters just as much as running well.

Looking After Each Other

At Netley Abbey Runners, we’re dedicated to staying safe, healthy, and supportiveof one another.

We know that mental healthplays a huge role in overall wellbeing — and for many of our members, it’s just as important as physical fitness.  Running is a wonderful way to boost both your body and mind, but we understand that sometimes, you or your loved ones might need a little extra support.

Beginners’ Guide to Running

New or returning to running? Start safely and confidently with these quick answers.

2–3 runs per week is a solid start. Keep most runs easy (able to talk in sentences) and leave rest days between longer efforts.

Yes — it’s safe and effective. Example: run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute, repeat for 20–30 minutes.

There’s no “right” pace. Your easy pace is one where you can chat. Consistency beats speed for progress.

Comfortable trainers, weather-appropriate clothing and hi-vis/reflective kit for dark evenings. Add extras (belt, torch, GPS) later if you like.

Increase gradually (no more than ~10% per week), warm up 2–3 mins, cool down, and add simple strength twice a week.

Stop if you feel sharp pain. Rest a few days; if it persists, seek professional advice. Short breaks now prevent long layoffs later.

Set small goals, run with others, and celebrate progress. Joining Netley Abbey Runners is a brilliant way to stay supported.
